R.B. Kitaj [Artist Biography]

Printmaking has been an important part of Kitaj's career and, at various times, he has concentrated on screenprint, etching or lithography - often depending on where he was living and the association he developed with his printer.

Many of his early prints were photocollaged screenprints made with Chris Prater of Kelpra Studio, one of the first printers to encourage artists to use what had been a purely commercial medium

'The Red Dancer of Moscow' was the most complex and accomplished of the photocollaged images - and appropriately one of the last in this vein.
